97% of All E-Mail is Spam!

Sure, you get a lot of spam, and there are probably some days when you have just had enough. You think that most e-mail must be spam, and, guess what? You’re right. According to Microsoft, 97% of all e-mail sent is “unwanted” (that’s a euphemism for spam). However, said Cliff Evans, head of security and privacy for Microsoft in the UK, “The good news is that the majority of that never hits your inbox although some will get through.” In other words, most spam gets filtered out by ISPs. But spam still costs money: the cost to run filters, the servers that have to process the spam, and the bandwidth it takes up.
But not everyone agrees with Microsoft’s figure of 97%. Paul Woods, senior analyst at e-mail security firm Message Labs, said, “Our own analysis shows that around 81% of e-mail traffic we were processing was identified as spam and unwanted.” Other figures that get cited range from 50% to 80%.
No matter. Whatever the actual percentage, this doesn’t change how you perceive all the junk that you get in your in-box; the spam that doesn’t get filtered by ISPs. For that spam, you need Intego Personal Antispam, the intelligent spam filtering software for Mac. It will learn from your e-mail and provide the most efficient spam filtering for Mac. You’ll find your in-box will quickly become spam-free, and you’ll be able to focus all your attention on your real e-mail.
