The U.S. Department of Justice has handed down a 19-count indictment<\/a> against two men accused of counterfeiting software. The two defendants are charged with Conspiracy, Mail and Wire Fraud, Criminal Copyright Infringement, and Trafficking in Counterfeit Labels, Packaging or Containers. According to a press release, “The pair, doing business under numerous web sites, including SoftwareDiner.com, fraudulently advertised that they were authorized distributors of a multitude of brand name software products from legitimate companies. Firms whose software was counterfeited in these scams, and which collectively lost millions of dollars based on the estimated retail prices of the software that was counterfeited, include: Acronis, Apple, Corel, FWB, Intego, Intuit, Macromedia (acquired by Adobe in 1995), McAfee, Pinnacle, Sage, Sonic Solutions’ Roxio Division, Symantec, Webroot, and numerous other well-known entities.”<\/p>\n

Intego is very disappointed that its software has been counterfeited, but glad that the Justice Department is proceeding with prosecution for these offenses. Intego would like to help all those who were scammed by this, and offers to exchange the counterfeit software for full versions of the actual software that users thought they were buying. All victims of this scam, who purchased counterfeit Intego software in single-user licenses from September 2004 through February 2006, can contact Intego and, if they can provide proof of purchase for this counterfeit software, Intego will give them full versions of the software that they purchased.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
