A Reuters report<\/a> gives some sobering information about the cost of computer security issues. From a survey presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos, one security company estimates that data theft can cost up to $1 trillion dollars annually. From malware – 80% of which is “aimed to make financial gain”, and not simply cause problems on computers – to employee theft of data, to other types of security breaches, computer security has increasing costs. Globally, malware is said to have increased 400% in 2008, and the trend shows no sign of abating. As we’ve reported here often, threats to the Mac are on the rise as well.
