Apple had previously updated XProtect to make 11.5.502.149 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/adobe-patches-critical-flaws-in-flash-and-shockwave\/\">released early in February<\/a>) the minimum version:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/old-adobe-flash-versions-now-also-blocked-by-xprotect\/flashxprotect\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11043\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11043\" title=\"FlashXProtect\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/FlashXProtect.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"321\" height=\"51\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/FlashXProtect.png 321w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/FlashXProtect-150x23.png 150w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/FlashXProtect-300x47.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 321px) 100vw, 321px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, Apple has updated XProtect to require a more recent version of Adobe Flash, as users were advised to update to a newer version (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/adobe-squashes-two-exploits-in-the-wild-designed-to-target-firefox\/\">11.6.602.171, released a few days ago<\/a>) as it addresses vulnerabilities from 3 CVEs, two of which have been seen in attacks in the wild.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/old-adobe-flash-versions-now-also-blocked-by-xprotect\/flashxprotect2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11061\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11061\" title=\"FlashXProtect2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/FlashXProtect2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"55\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/FlashXProtect2.png 318w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/FlashXProtect2-150x25.png 150w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/FlashXProtect2-300x51.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Flash and Java are both popular attack points for malware authors, as they provide the opportunity to access users across all the various popular operating systems. Steve Jobs took a lot of heat for the decision not to include Flash support in iOS, leading him to write <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/hotnews\/thoughts-on-flash\/\">an open letter on why this decision was made<\/a> (and Adobe to come up with an alternative solution, in the form of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/adobe-media-server-standard.html\">Adobe Media Server<\/a>). From a security perspective, the omission of Flash has helped decrease the options malware authors have for attacking iDevices.
