Intego Releases Personal Backup X,
a Backup, Synchronization and Cloning Utility for Mac OS X

Fully Compatible with Jaguar

MIAMI, FL (October 2, 2002) - Intego Inc., today released Intego Personal Backup X, an all-in-one backup, synchronization and volume cloning solution for Mac OS X. The program manually or automatically backs up files, synchronizes data between two computers or volumes, and clones bootable Mac OS X volumes. Users can choose from one-click operations or custom scripts. Intego Personal Backup X is fully compatible with Jaguar, the latest version of Mac OS X (10.2).

Written specifically for Mac OS X, utilizing Apple's new Cocoa development technology, Intego Personal Backup X provides an easy-to-use interface and advanced capabilities that simplify the process of protecting data from accidental deletions, hard disk failures and other problems. Backups, synchronizations and clones can be made with a click of the mouse. Alternatively, users can create scripts and define exceptions, select multiple sources, set schedules, and even clone their Mac OS X startup volume to ensure they have bootable backups at all times.

Backups can run automatically at shutdown, at preset times, or at regular intervals; or manually by selecting a script from a special pull-down menu. The program recognizes any HFS/HFS+/UFS volume including hard disks, magneto-optical disks, SyQuest cartridges, Zip cartridges, iDisks, and AppleShare, samba and NFS servers. All data is copied in Finder format, enabling users to immediately recover backup files without performing complicated restore procedures.

The synchronization option makes it possible to update the most recent items between two volumes. This feature is useful for PowerBook and iBook users as well as for managing multiple projects on removable media. The program also:

  • Backs up complete folders and volumes
  • Synchronizes folders or volumes
  • Clones bootable startup volumes
  • Performs incremental backups, backing up only new and modified files
  • Works completely in the background
  • Backs up files in disk images
  • Runs multi-generational backups
  • Lets users choose what not to copy via exception lists
  • Lists all backup activities in a log file
  • Automatically mounts shared volumes when backup starts
  • Handles multiple backup scripts

Intego Personal Backup X supports the latest version of Intego's NetUpdate automatic software update engine. Users can program updates for specific days and times, and NetUpdate will automatically and simultaneously check the Intego server for updates for all Intego programs installed on the user's computer, including Intego Personal Backup X.
"Backing up data is one of the pillars of computer security," said Laurent Marteau, CEO of Intego. "With Intego Personal Backup X, users can set their backup routine once and then safely back up or synchronize their data automatically without any interference with their work. It makes it easy to perform daily backups for maximum protection."

Intego Personal Backup X runs under Mac OS X 10.1.1 or higher. The program is also available in French and Japanese versions and can be purchased immediately from major computer retailers, 200 Apple Specialists listed on the Intego web site, and direct from Intego at www.intego.com. It lists for $59.95.
