INTEGO RELEASES NETBARRIER X5 PERSONAL FIREWALL
WITH DOZENS OF NEW FEATURES

Best-Selling Mac Firewall Secures Macs Against Network Attacks

Austin, TX, January 15, 2008: Mac attacks are increasing, and Mac users need to protect their Macs, now more than ever, from the dangers of the Internet. Intego, the Macintosh security specialist, has updated its best-selling personal firewall, NetBarrier X5, to provide even more protection from the latest kinds of attacks that Mac users face. With dozens of new features, NetBarrier X5 is stronger than ever, providing Mac users with full protection from network attacks, Trojan horses, spyware and more. Intego is presenting and selling NetBarrier X5 at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, from January 15-18, at booth S-2426 of the Moscone Center.

NetBarrier X5 is the acclaimed personal firewall, Antivandal, Internet filter and network monitoring tool for Macintosh that is fully compatible with Mac OS X Leopard, and runs on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macintosh computers. NetBarrier X5 incorporates a wide range of new features and enhancements and a user-friendly, ergonomic interface suited to both beginners and experts alike. As Macworld magazine has said, "Intego's NetBarrier is the best personal firewall on the market."

"We've added dozens of new features to NetBarrier X5 to respond to the latest network attacks that target Macs," said Laurent Marteau, CEO of Intego. "With a new interface, enhancements to the program's firewall, further refinement of its Antivandal to thwart network attacks, and a new helper application for cleaning Internet cache files, cookies and more, NetBarrier X5 is clearly, like its predecessors, the best personal firewall for the Mac."

NetBarrier X5 continues to provide the most user-friendly and powerful firewall features, and adds new functions to make the program even more secure and more customizable. Among the program's new features are multiple firewall configuration settings, which can change when network settings or locations change; simple and advanced firewall modes; advanced options for intrusion protection; improved anti-spyware functions; more thorough logging; enhanced network monitoring features; and a new helper application, Washing Machine, which cleans browser caches, cookie files, history files and more.

NetBarrier X5 offers the most thorough protection from the dangers of the Internet. Its key features include:

  • Personal Firewall-controls all incoming and outgoing TCP/IP traffic and data; includes pre-configured filtering rules for non-technical users and customizable port and service rules for advanced users. Rules can be quickly added by drag-and-drop from a Services Library palette, activated and deactivated when needed, and schedules can determine days and times when they are active. Configurations allow users to save settings for different uses and different network locations.
  • Antivandal Protection-blocks ping attacks, port scans and other intrusion attempts; detects and logs most the common network attacks, and spots attempts to log in with incorrect passwords. Alerts can be displayed in windows on-screen, and e-mail messages can be sent to specific addresses in the event of thwarted attacks. Trojan horse protection blocks the latest threats to Mac OS X.
  • Internet Filters and Anti-Spyware-gives users control over cookies, browser cache files, and ad banners, and analyzes data as it leaves the computer, preventing unauthorized exporting of credit card numbers, passwords, and other sensitive data. Customizable Stop Lists and Trusted Group listings block incoming access from network addresses that have made previous intrusion attempts while granting access to friendly addresses.
  • Network Monitoring-includes network gauges that display real-time activity in and out of the user's Mac. Full network activity information is provided, including global traffic, active ports and services, and much more. Users can also detect available AirPort (WiFi) networks, and run whois and traceroute queries. Detailed logs can be stored and exported in a variety of formats, and can also be added to the Mac OS X system log facility.

System Requirements:

Mac OS X 10.4 or higher (Tiger and Leopard). Certain features are only available with Mac OS X Leopard.
